| Overview |
Founded in 2003, Auto-ID Special Interest
Group (SIG) is a not-for-profit agent of
the Auto-ID lab at Fudan University . The
Main objective of the SIG is to congregate
efforts and resources from those who are
interested in the RFID adoption in China
, including companies, associations, governments
and individuals, to do application-oriented
researches and market-oriented investigations,
according to the specific environment of
China , and to provide service and consultation
for them.

| Mission
& Vision |
China
will become the
manufacturing center
of the world and
will become one
of the biggest
RFID market in
the world.
Chinese
manufacturers and
3-P logistics still
have no enough
knowledge on RFID.
RFID
demo systems are
still needed to
exhibit the application,
in order to educate
the RFID users
or potential users.
A
showroom is needed
for the RFID vendors
to demonstrate
the performance
of their products.
A
discussion board
is needed for all
the members, in
order to form a
RFID community
in China . |
|
| Memberships |
The SIG of
Auto-ID Lab China
welcomes companies
from all related
industries to join
and participate.
We classified our
membership into
different categories.
They are: Co-founders , Overseers , Technology
Leads , Researchers and Personal
members .
The former global
sponsors of Auto-ID
center will have
the priorities
to join. |

Work
Plan |
1.
Demo system in China
A demo and evaluating
system will be set
up including a completed
supply chain scenario
(from warehouse or
distribution center
of the manufacturer
to the warehouse
or back-store of
the retailer). Different
kinds of readers
will be deployed
and different kind
of sample product
will be tagged by
RFID and pass through
the gate readers.
Performance of the
RFID and the gates
readers will be evaluated
and the influence
between different
samples will be studied
in the detail. |
2.
Frequency Allocation
and EMV
A comprehensive
study will be performed
on the frequency
allocation for
RFID in China in
HF, UHF and higher
frequency. This
will lead to the
proposal of RFID
frequency allocation
of the RFID standard
in China .
EMC test will also
be performed and
analyzed during the
demo and trial run.
As EMC is not well
controlled in China
, many appliances
and communication
devices may interfere
the RFID system even
through the RFID
system is OK. We
need to study the
interference by doing
experiments of RFID
with cellular phones,
appliances and other
devices that may
emit radio wave. |
3.
Trial run for
manufacturer
A local manufacture
will be chosen
to evaluate the
application of
RFID in the manufacturing
control system.
RFID will be integrated
into the CIMS and
ERP to demonstrate
how RFID technology
can improve the
efficiency of manufacturing
and distribution. |
4. Trial run
for retailer
A local retailer
or foreign retailer
with local store
will be chosen
to evaluate the
application of
RFID in retailer
to show how RFID
can help to improve
the performance
of their supply
chain. |
5.
Privacy issues
in China
As Chinese treat
the privacy very
differently from
western people, a
special research
will be taken to
study the attitude
of Chinese people
to RFID, which can
trace objects. A
partner will be chosen
to lead the survey
and analysis. This
will closely work
with the SIG for
privacy of Auto-ID
Center . |
6.
Survey to the RFID
users
The RFID users
in China are divided
into 2 classes:
passive user and
active user. The
former one is those
users driven by
the mandate of
international retailer
or organizations.
The second one
is those users
driven by the inner
requirements. To
know what they
really need and
when they want
to implement RFID
is very important
for the RFID industry
and research entities. |
